IN PERSON

Our IN PERSON event takes place at the Four Seasons Hotel Houston, which is located at 1300 Lamar St, Houston, TX 77010. We recommend that you fly into either IAH or Hobby airport. Both are about the same distance from the hotel.

Most of our events take place in the ballroom, which is found on the third floor.

During registration you’ll get a registration bag and name badge. Please wear your name badge at all times. We do this for security, but it’s also fun to meet fellow authors.

We provide coffee and tea in the mornings before the first session. We also have two lunch buffets which include multiple options for people who are vegetarian and gluten-free. If you are vegan or have a food allergy, we will provide meal tickets when you register. You can hand them to any server at the start of lunch to receive your meal.

HEALTH POLICY

If you have any signs of either COVID or the flu, please stay away from the conference. Even if you’re already in town, you can watch the livestream from your hotel room. We want everyone to stay safe and healthy. It’s your choice whether to wear a mask or not. Both the event and the attendees must comply with all hotel and government regulations regarding COVID.

VIRTUAL

Our VIRTUAL event takes place… all over the world!

We will give everyone access to the online portal at authoradsintensive.com on Monday, October 31st.

If you already have a login, either because you attended RAM last year or because you have taken Author Ads Intensive, then you will be granted access to RAM 2022 with the same login. You will get an email when this happens, with a link that you can use to reset your password.

❧ If you don’t have a login, one will be created for you! You’ll get two emails: one with your username and password, and another granting you access to Romance Author Mastermind. All the links to Zoom and anything you need to access the program will be available there.

NOTE: One of the tricky things about authors is that we tend to have more than one email address. Sometimes many more! Your login information to the system will use the email address that you gave us when you registered. It’s also the email address where you should have gotten an email telling you about this Schedule page. If you’re not sure, no worries. Just wait until Monday, October 31st, and check your inboxes. If you can’t find it in any of them, or in Spam folders, then on Tuesday you can email us at romanceauthormastermin[email protected], and we’ll figure it out.

We will use Zoom to livestream the event, as well as to perform the Question & Answer sessions and Afternoon Roundtables. Make sure you have Zoom installed and ready to go! It’s always best to have the latest version installed, as some features don’t work unless you have. The links and passcodes will be inside the portal mentioned above.

VIRTUAL FORMAT

We will have a LIVE stream of the event throughout, covering all the sessions and keynotes. We’ll take that stream, split it up, process the video, and put it in the portal–which will take some work. We’re estimating a week. It may be sooner, but we want to be up front that it takes time to do that. The recordings will be up for two months after that for you to watch and rewatch as much as you would like.

IMPORTANT: We are putting in a great amount of work (and also spending a great deal on A/V) in order to have a livestream that works perfectly. But as with anything live, we know that sometimes things happen outside our control. If anything goes wrong, we’ll do our absolute best to fix it quickly. Please be patient with us while we navigate these new hybrid waters, and if we miss anything live, it will be available in the recordings afterward.

REGISTRATION BOX

As part of your digital registration, you’ll get one our superfun registration boxes shipped anywhere in the world. Most of the boxes will ship out before the actual event, but depending on where you are and the mail service, it may not arrive until after. Don’t worry; nothing in the box is actually required to participate in RAM. Whenever the box arrives, you’ll get new books to read and other fun things.

Confidentiality Agreement

Part of what makes RAM a unique and valuable experience is that our speakers and moderators share specific and often sensitive information about their businesses: facts and figures, what they spend, what they earn, pricing information, statistics, what worked, what didn’t, and so forth. In exchange, our attendees agree to keep this information to themselves.

By signing up to attend RAM 2022, you agreed to the terms:

❧ All information disclosed at RAM 2022 that is not verifiably (a) in your possession prior to RAM 2022; (b) public knowledge prior to its disclosure at RAM 2022; or (c) legitimately in your hands through some other channel is “Confidential Information.”

❧ You will not disclose, share, reveal, publish or disseminate any Confidential Information either during or after RAM 2022 without prior authorization from RAM or the relevant speaker/moderator.

❧ In particular, you agree not to blog, Tweet, or post any Confidential Information on social media or to discuss Confidential Information in a podcast.

❧ You will not distribute any slides or handouts received or shown at RAM 2022 (or portions thereof)—including at roundtables—to anyone who did not attend RAM 2022 without prior authorization from RAM or the relevant speaker or moderator.

❧ Failure to comply with these terms may result in (a) your being kicked out of the conference (e.g., your online and/or in person access will be terminated with no reentry and no refund and you will be removed from the Facebook group); (b) your being uninvited to future conferences and/or (c) legal action as appropriate.

Thank you for helping make RAM a safe and useful space!

Frequently Asked Questions

Session Information

Reinvention, Six Figure Months, and Hitting #1 on the Amazon Store
Pippa Grant
#1 Amazon bestselling author Pippa Grant originally wrote romantic comedy under a different name, but something held her back. (Hint: It was fear.) Only when she reinvented herself as the raunchy, raucous, rom com author she’s known as today did her star take off. Writing books that make herself laugh would be reward enough, but the six figure months don’t hurt. Success isn’t an accident. As Grant proves, it’s strategy…and a hilariously good time.
Simple Ways to Make Good Decisions in a Global Marketplace
Sarina Bowen
The hardest thing about this job is listening to your gut and making good choices. We are all drowning in data, yet struggling to feel secure in our decisions. KU or wide? TikTok or Insta? Abs or illustrated? Sarina helps to identify a handful of business barometers that will help you breathe deeply and make good choices. Hate math? No problem. This session will help you evaluate your book sales so you can be confident and sell more books.
So You Think You Want to Assume a New Identity…
Elana Johnson
Starting a pen name isn’t for the faint of heart, but with the right strategy – and eliminating what you don’t need until you need it – assuming a new identity (or starting a new pen name) doesn’t have to be overwhelming, instill fear in your heart, or cause you to freeze and not do anything. Pen names aren’t for everyone, but we’ll discuss why you’d choose to set up a pseudonym, which steps to take first, how to manage all of the pieces, and then how to stay sane while writing, launching, and marketing with different pen names.
Money Made Simple: How to Provide for and Protect Your Family with Author Royalties
Maya Hughes
Bestselling author Maya Hughes built her author business with one goal in mind: to build financial freedom for her family. She does so with a mind for strategy and an eye on the future. And a healthy dose of cautiousness, which is why she knows a lot about saving. Trust the waves of publishing? Nah. She trusts her own planning prowess, which she’s going to share with all of us. Down to earth plans and simple forecasting makes it possible for Hughes to protect her family. We don’t have to hold our breath every time we open our royalty reports. She’s going to show us how.
BookTok & Influencers: How to Leverage TikTok without Creating Videos
Valentine Grinstead and Logan Chisholm
TikTok is changing the landscape of publishing, but most of those changes aren’t coming from author accounts. Readers are eager to hear from the next generation of influencers: BookTokers. Hear from publicist Valentine Grinstead and TikToker Logan Chisholm in casual conversation as they discuss how authors can benefit from the hungry readership–without having to lipsync, dance, or even post a video. How can authors get their books featured on the next viral video?
Unlock Your Next Level with Author Success Archetypes
Becca Syme
As an author success coach who’s coached thousands of individual authors, Becca has seen every version of author success that exists. And there are very clear patterns that separate people into archetypal categories—big-picture types on a continuum of behavior. They do not determine whether or not someone will be successful (success is open to all kinds of different people), but they do determine how success happens. The closer we stick to type, the more likely we are to be aligned to success. We need to know what to keep, what to quit, and what to question, and this workshop will give actionable advice for each of the five types on the “Takeoff Success” continuum of author success archetypes.
How to go from Five Figures to Six Figures
Amelia Wilde
After early success, USA Today bestselling Amelia Wilde author hit every author’s nightmare. Her sales tanked. No amount of marketing could bring them back. Her message to authors is that you can come back from anything. And you can do it writing the books you love most.
Romance Novels on the Big Screen–and Streaming TV
Maggie Marr
As both an established entertainment lawyer and a romance novelist, Maggie Marr knows what it takes to make a movie deal. How do great books get discovered? How can you make your books attractive to buyers? Streaming platforms are hungry for content, and as novelists, we have what they’re looking for! Claire Cook, the New York Times bestselling author of Must Love Dogs, made into a major motion picture starring John Cusack and Diane Lane, calls Marr’s words “the perfection mixture of optimism and realism to up your chances for actually making it happen.”
How to go from Six Figures to Seven Figures
Elizabeth Briggs
Bestselling author Elizabeth Briggs built her author career with strong branding and good books. Along with translations and TikTok. The usual suspects, right? Except there’s something very unusual about her story. Over the years that she built this business, she had a baby. She learned how to do Facebook ads while breastfeeding her baby. She set a goal to hit seven figures… then she was diagnosed with cancer. She underwent chemotherapy and surgery and still managed to hit her seven figure goal in December. She’s sharing her story to help other authors navigate stormy waters in their lives and thrive with their books.

If you can’t find it in any of them, or in Spam folders, then on Tuesday you can email us at [email protected], and we’ll figure it out.

Romance Novels on the Big Screen–and Streaming TV

How to go from Six Figures to Seven Figures
Elizabeth Briggs
Bestselling author Elizabeth Briggs built her author career with strong branding and good books. Along with translations and TikTok. The usual suspects, right? Except there’s something very unusual about her story. Over the years that she built this business, she had a baby. She learned how to do Facebook ads while breastfeeding her baby. She set a goal to hit seven figures… then she was diagnosed with cancer. She underwent chemotherapy and surgery and still managed to hit her seven figure goal in December.
